    Overview

    Reviewed by: Dr. Kristen Dority

Teeth cleaning needs to be done daily with good home care. Individuals also need to have regular cleanings with dental hygienists annually or every six months if situations in the mouth warrant.

    Detailed Description
Soft toothbrushes that are replaced every three to four months are best for home care because they don’t damage gum tissue or tooth enamel. Most dentists agree that electric toothbrushes can help keep teeth cleaner, but professionals are careful to point out that advanced technology is no substitute for taking the time to brush and floss carefully and properly.

Ideally brushing and flossing after every meal is best, but at least mornings and before bedtime is recommended. When flossing it is recommended to take eight to 10 strokes up and down each surface, and to make sure the floss gets down under the gumline where debris and bacteria can accumulate. Additionally people should at least rinse their mouth after drinking or eating sugared items as well as coffee and tea.

User a tongue scraper can also help keep the mouth clean. Since odor-causing bacteria collect on the tongue, cleaning it off can help control halitosis.
