Well, John, I beg to differ on one of your points. While some people don't need frequent exercise to maintain their weight, they DO need it for cardiovascular (and sometimes mental) health. It's not just weight loss that the Institute of Medicine is getting at here, it's all the health benefits that come with exercise. Granted, it is extremely difficult to fit a regular exercise routine into a busy day, but the payoffs are great.

I have a difficult time accepting studies like this. I personally feel that everyone is different. Some people can get away with infreqent exercise while others need daily exercise to maintain weight. One hour a day of exercise is difficult for those of us who also work full time jobs, have errands to run after hours, and have other activities. Thanks for listening. John
