Also substituting spinach in for your normal salad greens is extremely healthy. Spinach is SO good for you...and as a lettuce substitute is great - even on sandwiches!

I think salads made with dark, leafy greens (ex. Romaine lettuce) offer such a high level of important nutrients and fiber that it's okay to add a wee bit of what you like in it so you will eat it more often. Though I would be cautious of Caesar salads. Have the dressing and parmesan on the side so you can control the amount you consume. Three cheers for greens!

What about nuts, etc? I know that there is a lot of fat/cholesterol added when add sunflower seeds, etc.

You should avoid cheese and bacon bits and croutons and dressing and ham and eggs, etc.

stay away from cheese and bacon bits- i know it's hard to eat a salad without them, but they are bad news!

I have heard conflicting opinions on the nutrition value of most salads. I know that a low cal dressing is key, but what else should be avoided?
